In March 1983, a small group of 21 people thought the Shrovetide of Ribadeo, could be the popular party par excellence, just tried that with enthusiasm and willingness to get out front.
I knew that we were willing to take an active part in the carnival of dress up and enjoy a journey that is as suitable for a serenade. After a previous meeting, was composed the Shrovetide Commision carnivals, in charge of organizing the year 1984.

Public Relations: Maria Asuncion Torviso Peres and José Antonio González Iglesias.
Criminal Coordinators: Table Alvarez, Maria José González García, José Luis García Fernández.
Relations with the City: Maria Dolores Sanchez and Manuel Arias Sampedro Pacios.
Relationship to youth: Cora Beatriz Rodriguez, Manuela Torviso Perez and Maria del Mar Garcia Diaz.
Report artistic: Jesús Díaz Bravo, Fernando Rodríguez Rodríguez, Elisa and José Antonio López Flour Peres Cabanas.

Subsequently, and always with the wise young and spirited, were to form the successive committees, and those 21 components of the principle, so far, include: Alvarez screen, Gilberto Suárez Méndez, José Antonio González Iglesias, Fernando Rodríguez Rodríguez, José Luis García Fernández (Designers artistic Commission 1990), Veiga and Luis Afonso Rodil Mourelle.
Each other, those were the ones who came and those who follow in the gap, we have placed the festivals of Shrovetide of Ribadeo at a height very dignified, which is what our people deserve.
In 2000, with the majority of the doll, Shrovetide  was celebrated in style, with multiple and varied activities, parades and contests.

The activities that are organized during the carnivals are very numerous and varied.
Some of them are specific one-day concrete, as the session (Friday Fareleiro) or the big parade of Mardi Gras (Shrovetide Tuesday).
Besides these, each year organizes activities such as Festa da Filloa, the Kids Shrovetide, competitions, shows and various presentations of all kinds.
The extras are no less inspiring daily ribadenses the streets to the delight of residents and visitors.

The Pig Parade

If the Shrovetide of Ribadeo some comparsa parade or some popular, no doubt, which is the procession of the pig.
During the last years, always on Shrovetide Sunday, went out to the public via a pig weighing about 100 pounds, housed in beautiful wagon, good company and better dressed.
As anecdote, commenting on the ban of one year, he produced and which consisted of not being able to get the pig in the street.
Of course logically went, even though the mayor, those moments, said it was not advisable, given the pressures exerted on it some authorities.
 They would believe that the animal would be mistreated because lotteries raffled 100 kilos of pork, in one piece.
This little incident served to the great comedian of the country, Carlos "O Xestal" for parody with the grace peculiar to say ... "If all the pigs in the world, were so well treated as  the one of the Shrovetide Commission of Ribadeo... no one would die of hunger."

Record Guinness

The popular Shrovetide ribadense, will be registered on the National Guinness.
The Shrovetide doll character who is usually represented by a straw man dressed, swallows all guilty, and ends up being burned in the midst of a sensational pyrotechnics and fabulous string of fireworks.
One of the shrovetides, the 1988 in particular deserves to appear in the Book of World Records, in National Guinness, given its sheer volume and its height.
His weight was around the two tons and was built with cardboard, stone, plaster, iron bars and stuffing of straw and grass
